What Is Recycled Rainbow?

Recycled Rainbow is a four-day event inspired by the Burning Man festival. Everything is organized, built and paid for by volunteers with their own resources. There are no trash cans, so you’ll have to pack your trash out with you. There are no vendors, so you have to bring enough food, drink and whatever else you need for four days. There are no schedules or rules, so you’ll have to make things happen yourself and respect your neighbor.

Volunteer Opportunities in Cleveland

As promised, here is the list of volunteer opportunities as presented by Meredith of the Phoenix Project at last Saturdays’ Town Hall meeting.

Town Hall Meeting: April 24th, 4-6 PM, with guest speakers!

[ April 24, 2010; 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. ]

A chance to meet us & other fellow burners in the Cleveland area. There will be a Q&A afterward so you can ask questions about RR and learn more of our upcoming event called Primer.

Our lovely Volunteer Coordinator Javamama will tell you all the ways in which you can get involved at “Recycled Rainbow: Deception?” which takes place September 23 – 26th, 2010.

Featuring guest speaker Poosie Kat, who is driving all the way up from Cincinnati to speak on behalf of Scorched Nuts, Southern Ohio’s regional burn (June 17-19, 2010.)

Also featuring Sam Harmon to speak on behalf of Handmade Music Cleveland, and Nick Traenkner to speak on behalf of The Failure Society.

If you cannot make it to the meeting, consider coming to the afterparty @ The Winchester Music Hall in Lakewood where we will be hanging out until the bar closes. It is a great opportunity to meet local burner types, discuss your own ideas for art installations & theme camps if you want, or just simply have a light and social evening with like-minded friends you’ve never met.

We have rented out their performance hall for the evening, so you are heavily encouraged to show up and buy a drink or two and stay awhile. :)

Winchester is at 12112 Madison Avenue, Lakewood/Cleveland, Ohio 44107

Tickets for Deception? 2010 will go on sale March 1, 2010 at 8 PM

[ March 1, 2010; 8:00 pm; ] This year’s ticketing system will work differently than in past years. With an increased population of participants, Recycled Rainbow has gotten more expensive to produce. More people mean higher insurance rates, more portajon servicings, and higher departmental budget requests.

2010 Call For Submissions & Next Year’s Theme

It’s hard to believe 2010 is almost here! As the holidays approach, it’s more difficult to imagine preparations for a new event have already begun.

While there were certainly mistakes to learn from, we shouldn’t ignore our successes in 2009. This was artistically and organizationally our most participatory year to date. Despite a surprising 50% growth in attendance (and three major burns), we left it cleaner than previous years. All those with burning art installations took responsibility to clean the debris and plant seed in its place (some even came back a week later to ensure this was done.) Today, a couple months after RR 2009, there is already some grass replacing the scorched earth. Fuck yeah!

All the participants who built and tore down the city (filled with structures people building, cooking, drinking, eating, performing, & dancing) once again left no trace.

Despite the most relentless rainfalls since RR has gone outdoors (turning many tents into swimming pools) there was a major growth in collaborative art structures & villages.

We have seen outstanding readiness & preparation from those who learned from previous years (and no major injuries to report!)

All the team leads, and I mean this, all of them did a kickass job of building talented, responsible, and effective teams who played a major role in this year’s success. Our greatest achievement was collaborative radical inclusion, and we wish to push it even further in 2010. I am proud to say we have gotten the official invite to return to the same land, and we accepted. Recycled Rainbow will begin on Thursday September 23rd, and end on Sunday September 26th.

A once sleeping event awakens to new opportunities & challenges; opportunities for growth (internally and externally,) and there are challenges to build an even more imaginative invisible city.

It starts with our most grueling process of the year: DESIGN!

Hey Ho All! CampDaddy here wanting to send out a great big Thank You for participating at RR09!

Thru Armageddon, a bad case of Mutation and upward to Elevation, Recycled Rainbow is what we, as a community, make it. This year was the best RR to date thanks to all of you!

While RR09 is over, the one and only Official Recycled Rainbow Elevation Decompression is on the schedule! RR Decomp includes not only persons who attended RR09 but anyone who wanted to but could not. Anyone who attended and has friends that want to be there to see a mini version are welcome too.

Decompression is scheduled for October 10 at Crystal Springs Campground, 31478 Bagley Road , North Ridgeville , OH 44039 . Entry fee is $10 per person to cover the portajohn rental. There is no re-entry fee. Overnight camping is permitted and encouraged.

BE AWARE!! The section RR will be using is completely primitive. No running water, no electricity. The verge is well trimmed. There is a stand of trees for camping in and setting up rain shelters. There will be one portable restroom present. Bring warm clothes. Bring rain shelters. Bring waterproof boots. Bring ear plugs. Don’t drive faster than 5 mph when entering the campground (SERIOUSLY!) No big bonfires are permitted per North Ridgeville fire department. We can have lots of small campfires.

Click here for a list of other places to find us for updates.

Even tho RR09 is ended, RR10 is now less than a year away! Announcements for the theme and dates will up coming sometime after the first of the year. As will announcements concerning Primer for sometime in May.

Rumor mill advocates seem to think a shake up about the theme of RR10 will occur. Keep an eye out for details.
