Dear RR community,
As you are aware, we put out a call 2 weeks ago stating RR was in danger of not happening due to lacking volunteers and ticket sales. Volunteers are vital and ticket sales necessary to make an event happen, but unfortunately the numbers were not adequate to allow the event to happen. We’d like to thank everyone who volunteered and purchased a ticket and to everyone who helped spread the word.
What does this mean if you purchased a ticket? You will be refunded your money within the next 2 weeks.
We apologize to those who were looking forward to the event as much as we were.
As we get closer to the event, we are also getting closer to reaching our goals in ticket sales and volunteers. If you are able to volunteer please send an email to volunteers[at]recycledrainbow[dot]org (and please buy your tickets ASAP at http://www.recycledrainbow.org so we can order our necessary infrastructure and insurance)
Ticket Sales - 14 tickets sold (we need to sell 50 by August 1st so BUY YOUR TICKET at www.recycledrainbow.org)
Emergency Services - we have two team leads and four volunteers. We need 5 more volunteers by the event.
Rangers - we have a team lead and 3 volunteers. We need three more volunteers by the event
Greeters - we are joyfully welcoming Carol Cazzarin as our Head Greeter. We have 3 volunteers. We need at least 7 more by the event.
Earth Guardians - This is a simple way to help out and a great excuse to visit every camp. Help all participants understand the principles of Leave No Trace and help us to create/maintain a beautiful environment for everyone.
Builders - the Department of Building Shit is pretty well set for volunteers but if you like to build stuff, let us know
Truck - If you are available Tuesday evening in Lakewood, Wednesday Afternoon at Big Arbs, Sunday afternoon at Big Arb’s or Sunday evening in Lakewood to help load and unload the truck, please let us know. There is a possibility that we will not need the truck this year, but it is better to be prepared with volunteers for any situation.
Reminder: if you are able to volunteer please send an email to volunteers[at]recycledrainbow[dot]org (and please buy your tickets ASAP at http://www.recycledrainbow.org so we can order our necessary infrastructure and insurance)
Innerspace: Destination Unknown is just over 2 months away! We hope that you are all busy enjoying these lovely summer days, but we must look ahead to the end of September. To date, our ticket sales have been low enough that we have begun to question if there is enough community support to put on the event… To complicate things even further, volunteerism is at an all time low!
We need your help to make sure the event happens this year.
Have you signed up to be a volunteer?
Have you purchased your tickets yet?
It’s important to remember that none of the participants are paid; We, as a collective, all volunteer our free time to organize prior to the event and volunteer during the event to make it the best experience we can make for the brief four days we have together. Advance ticket sales are essential to covering the cost of Land Rental, Insurance, and Port-o-Potties. Arrangements for these items must be made in advance and at this time, we do not have enough tickets sold to cover these costs! The minimum number of tickets we need to have sold by August 1 is 50.
Also, during the event we need volunteers to help us – Greeters, Medics, Rangers – These are all important volunteer positions necessary to make the event happen. By August 1, there need to be (at minimum) volunteer commitments for an additional 4 Medics, 4 Rangers, and 5 Greeters…Additional volunteer opportunities are yours for the making, but these positions are essential to our collective safety!
To clarify; we need to ensure that we have sufficient ticket sales AND volunteers by August 1 for the event to continue! Both volunteers and ticket sales will determine the future of Innerspace: Destination Unknown this year.
Why August 1? This is the time of year when infrastructure rentals and services need to be ordered, it’s when artists begin to invest heavily in their projects and theme camps, and should we need to cancel the event, we need to give the campground owner sufficient notice (as well as our participants.)
What do you want the event to be? Step up and volunteer, purchase your ticket, We make this together. If you want it, let’s make this event happen in 2012. www.recycledrainbow.org
Once you have bought your ticket, please contact our volunteer coordinators, Meredith and Susan, at volunteers[at]recycledrainbow[dot]org to sign up as a volunteer!
Here are descriptions of the roles we desperately need filled:
Emergency Services Department: ESD’s are responsible for handling all on site medical and fire emergencies. They are currently looking for CPR certified, EMS, Paramedics, First Responders, or anyone working in the medical field. We can offer discount tickets to anyone who volunteers for ESD, so if you can please let us know!
Gate Keepers/Greeters: The Gate is one of the most visible departments for the event. As the first person they see upon arriving and before entering the gate, your smiling face and the information you give will welcome each participant whether it’s their first time or family returning “home”. The Gate is intended as a well-run, easy to do, fun job!
Rangers: Handle conflict resolution and work in cooperation with the Emergency Service Department. Rangers are not security. They handle conflict by attempting to communicate and reach compromises so police don’t have to be called. The Team Lead communicates with other teams to ensure proper and fast response in the event of emergencies.
Recycled Rainbow (northern ohio’s oldest unofficial regional burn) is having another volunteer staff meeting this Saturday, also having an after party at the Phoenix Project and you’re all invited!
Great chance to meet with locals, especially if this if you’re a first time burner, feel free to show up and ask questions, I’m sure some of us will have answers! Perhaps even discuss the recent very successful Scorched Nuts, Ohio’s official regional burn.
Come as early as 8pm, hang out and talk about upcoming burner events like Firefly, Lakes of Fire, Freezing Man, Recycled Rainbow, Burning Man, whatever… the place is ours for the evening, and since it’s not a bar or coffee shop, please BYOE (bring your own everything!) Music and dancing in the basement, or chatter upstairs without shouting over music, whatever you prefer…again, it’s at the Phoenix Project, 13613 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood, Ohio 44107
Many thanks to the Phoenix Project for allowing us to use this space!

Recycled Rainbow is back! Our theme this year is “Innerspace: Destination Unknown” and the dates are set for September 27-30, 2012 (Thursday through Sunday) and will take place on the same land in East Rochester, Ohio (Big Arb’s Campground.) Ticket sales will officially launch April 1, 2012 at the first tier rate of $30. We can only afford to sell 40 of those, and to encourage early sales so we can get our infrastructural bills paid this year, we will stop selling first tier tickets by July 1, incentive to buy early! No more than two tickets per person, please!
February 25th is confirmed for RR’s organizational meeting after party date…. The owner of the Mars Bar in Lakewood said we’re welcome and it’s on his calendar now! Show up anytime between 8pm and 11pm.
For you night owls, we’ll be moving from there to the Phoenix Project
Want to meet some local burners? Come join us!
