What Is Recycled Rainbow?

Recycled Rainbow is a four-day event inspired by the Burning Man festival. Everything is organized, built and paid for by volunteers with their own resources. There are no trash cans, so you’ll have to pack your trash out with you. There are no vendors, so you have to bring enough food, drink and whatever else you need for four days. There are no schedules or rules, so you’ll have to make things happen yourself and respect your neighbor.

Report From The Field: 9/20/09

Monday, September 21, 2009

As is becoming a tradition for us, a pre-emptive task force was deployed to Big ARB’s campground this weekend. They found out the following important information:

1. There is apparently a yellow jacket nest somewhere in the dirt near the east border of the Downtown area. While DBS may attempt to locate it and “take care of it” on Wednesday night, it is strongly advised that participants SET UP TENTS ON OLD GRASS AND NOT ON THE DIRT NEAR THE TREES. We don’t want you sleeping on top of a yellow jacket nest now do we? Remember, yellow jackets are european wasps and do not die after stinging you. They also MARK THEIR FOES- so swatting at them will only piss them off and make them remember you and come after you with intent to sting you.

2. There is still a 40% chance of rain all weekend at the campground. While the weather is difficult to predict and some reports are saying the rain is coming earlier in the week and not later, PREPARE FOR RAIN. There is very little in the way of foliage to sheild you. sun shelters and improvised tarpaulin structures are fun ways to create small social spaces near your camp where you and your new friends can hang out and enjoy those extremely fancy beverages and good times. Remember RAIN IS FUN. RAIN WILL NOT STOP US. The tickets say “rain, sun, sleet or snow” and we mean it.

3. There’s still poison ivy in the trees along the east border of the downtown area. If you go into the border trees for firewood be careful about poison ivy.

4. There are several picnic tables located around the campground. If you want to use one, you are more than welcome to but remember these are campground property. These can be freely moved around as you wish.

That’s all for now. More breaking news to come.
